The story

“There is no cheating with raw food”, says Chris, founder and owner of RawByChris and the Little Raw Deli, in Perth. It’s easy to boost flavor with a hot pan or a grill, but with raw food there is only what nature provides. “You have to work with the best in-season ingredients for maximum flavor”. The result is a cuisine that is not only delicious, but very healthy.

Nutritious food was part of Chris’ childhood: from walnuts to cherries and massive pumpkins, everything was grown by her grandparents. Unusual for a kid, she used to eat all veggies, leaving meat behind – no wonder today she produces only vegan treats, savoury and sweet.

6 years ago she started experimenting with raw food to escape the monotony of her desk job. She wrote a blog about her adventures in the food world and was surprised to get an enthusiastic audience who wanted to buy her treats.Today she caters to around 40 cafes and restaurants around Perth, operates her own deli, published a cookbook available worldwide and has plans to expand so she can provide nutritious food to more people Australia-wide.

Back in Europe she worked with the United Nations to get microenterprises going in the poorest communities. Nowadays her goal is to put a social mission at the core of her business by employing disadvantage people and giving them a skill in the food industry.

We want to make desserts that are good for you and for the people who make them.

From blending, packing and delivering every dessert to the local café down the road, to growing a team that caters thousands of cakes from Margaret River to Kalgoorlie and all the way up to Karratha, this is the story of Raw by Chris, and it continues with you.

INGREDIENTS & Process
It’s what’s inside that matters.

At RawbyChris we aim to offer you raw, nutritious and ridiculously delicious guilt free treats that nourish from the inside out. We take pleasure in ‘cooking’ everything from scratch to give you the best of what nature has to offer – a world of living, fresh, ripe, organic produce; a world full of an abundance of seeds and nuts.

Respect for people and the land.

We believe every business has a responsibility towards its community and the planet. Using ingredients that are organic, Fair Trade or sourced from local small family farms is our commitment. We source for the best ingredients, to give you the best nutrition and value for our products.

Organic ingredients are ingredients that are grown or raised the way they are supposed to.

Organic ingredients benefit you and the environment and we know they taste better. Organic is great but it does not always come with a label. Sometimes farmers with sustainable practices are not certified organic. We source our ingredients making decisions ingredient-by-ingredient, keeping the big picture in mind.

The less distance food has to travel, the better for the environment.

We do as much as we can to try and source as much as possible from local farms and suppliers, when available. As much as possible, we try not to use trendy, exotic ingredients. Instead, we focus on making natural blends using great local ingredients. It does not only reduce the carbon footprint, but ensures you get fresh sweets made with quality ingredients. While not all our ingredients can be sourced locally, we still believe it’s important to do as much as we can.

Simplicity as Mother Nature intended it is the essence of raw awesome goodness.

We like to believe we make sweets that contribute to your overall health and the community’s overall well being. For that reason we support family farmers and value driven partners.

Every time you support our business, you support all the amazing Australian businesses in our supply chain.
WHO WE SUPPORT

The community we live in is very important to us and we try as much as possible to be an active part of it. We purchase from local farmers, donate food to charitable causes, take part in local charitable events and work with organisations to talk about the importance of growing, cooking and eating a healthy diet.

In May 2016 Raw by Chris launched an ongoing campaign ‘Lunch for Two’ in partnership with Manna Inc, in support of their efforts to feed the homeless.

Manna volunteers prepare ridiculous amounts of food every single day, with passion and dedication, and they donate that food to people without a home, people who go hungry every day, people who don’t have the means to secure nourishment any other way. Manna have been doing this successfully for over a decade, every day, 7 days a week, and we are hoping to further support their efforts. $5 dollars provides people in need with a hot 3 course meal.

Through our Deli and with the help of our customers (and in the tiniest donation tin) so far we have raised thousands of dollars. All donations made by our customers are matched by Raw by Chris.

Each year we also dedicate support to a variety of vegan and vegetarian groups, animal welfare programs, community groups, health organisations, charities and like-minded businesses and individuals.
